Homework Debate

 Homework Good or Bad

Is homework good or bad? A question that has been asked many times throughout school history. I am here to tell you the pros and cons about homework. But, you can decide if it is not worth the stress and money loss, or possibly it could pay off with good test scores and a better chance to get into college. You can decide.

These are the pros about homework, why we should keep it like it is. I read that some studies show that homework can help students get improved grades, test results, and are more likely to attend college. Studies from the High School Journal show that students that had between 31 and 90 minutes each day on homework got better grades, and research shows that students take in 50% of the information they are told in school. So homework reinforces the things they were told in class, and more. Finally thanks to homework parents can track what their children are learning in school and know what they are good at and what they are bad at so they can tell the teacher. Those are the reasons why we should keep homework.

Homework, uuuggghhh, that bonus time every night that you need to spend “reinforcing” what you already know enough about. This is why we should skip the extra work, a poll for high school students showed

that many of them said that they had too much homework, and they were stressed out at school. Alfie Kohn, an education and parenting expert, said, “Kids should have a chance to just be kids and do things they enjoy, mostly after spending six hours a day in school. After all, we adults need time just to chill out; it’s crazy to think that children must be engaged in constructive activities right up until their heads hit the pillow.” Also, 41% of US kids live in low-income families, so they probably don't have the money to provide their children with the resources they need for homework. Finally, An article from the Review of Educational Research reported that “in elementary school, homework had no association with achievement gains.” So, they have no need to give elementary school students homework. Those are reasons we shouldn’t keep homework for students.

As you can see there are some pros and some cons of having homework. Like, stress and not having enough money to afford the needed resources for homework. Or the opposing, it helps with better grades and not understanding to the full extent of the subject. So, you can decide if you do or don’t want to keep doing homework.
